ICON Dodge D200

Automotive restorations always were things I loved seeing. There is just something about having every single part new or made new in an old car. Its like bringing new life to a car that already has a ton of soul. The Dodge D200 is such a unique looking truck itself, it really seemed like a no-brainer for ICON to sink their genius into it. Basically what ICON did was make a brand new truck on the inside and kept it original on the outside. Sporting a brand new dodge Ram power-train, custom interior, and tons of custom chassis mods this is no ordinary Dodge. Nothing was left untouched. And to poke at my soft spot they added a beautiful Triumph in the bed. Man, what I would do to own this combination.

 

 

 

 

Mercedes 220SE: Family History

First and foremost, I want to wish everyone here on the East coast that was affected by this horrible hurricane in some way a fast recovery. Thankfully, there wasn’t too much destruction on this side of town, but it’s really incredible seeing parts of Manhattan under water. I get my cut in the lower east side on thursday, so it’s going to be pretty crazy seeing most things first hand.

One thing always in the back of my mind, is when I can afford to, I would love to buy some of the cars my father once owned, and give them to him. After all I do owe my obsession to all things on wheels to him. Don Minkoff really had a great opportunity to keep some really amazing and classic cars. And I’m glad he kept his fathers spirit alive. The Mercedes 220SE is an absolute timeless definition of beautiful rolling art. To own it must be an amazing experience. To know the car has a ton of history in your family must make it an experience not to be replaced.

Rust Is Not A Crime

I recently posted a picture of a rusted Porsche 356 on the True Driving fb page and there were a ton of negative comments. Firstly, I never understand the hate, but I guess that will always exist. The whole “rust” look has been around for a couple years now, and although I never liked when people purposely rust a hood or fender, there is just something about finding an old beat up rusted classic, and keeping the body just the way it is. Of course, restoring a car properly is always something that will get the most respect, but the rust look sure does add a ton of character. It may not be for everyone, but just because someone enjoys a rusted Porsche 356, it doesn’t mean they are “doing it wrong”. I like it. It’s different. And different is always welcome.

You have to credit these guys who are absolutely passionate about a specific style and type of car. You talk to them and they know every little fact about the history of the car and the company. It’s definitely a refreshing change from some of these “tuner” guys who know nothing. Lancia are indeed, some of the most beautiful cars ever built, just something about those Italians. Take a moment and really enjoy one of those beautiful Italians and learn something you didn’t.

Too Slow

I don’t know about anyone else, but there are a ton of builds in my mind I would love to do. A lot of them, of course haven’t been done yet and I would like to keep it that way. haha. Well one of my “dream” builds was a Audi 50, a car we never got over here in the states. I remember a yellow one roaming around the west coast for years, but with a 10k asking price it was just a teeny bit above what I was willing to spend. Well long story short, Rotiform eventually bought the car and sold it to a guy over here in New York. It landed in good hands it seems, because some pictures were released of it’s recent build. And, it’s beautiful. Rocking some new Rotiform 4-spoke TMB’s and a perfect hue of blue I’m glad it was done right. Props to the builder. Guess I was too slow.

PS – I still want one.

I really do apologize for posting all these videos, but I seem to keep finding these cool, worth talking about, vids. Love this video because it really shows how “easy” it is to make a motorcycle a rideable piece of art. How such a simple machine and give someone such joy. Ok, I’m getting too soft here. But, I think that’s what makes riding so unique yet so simple. Some do say, it’s the simple things that make you the most happy. So do yourself a favor, build a motorcycle, and be happy.

I really love what Fatlace is doing. It is really cool seeing how much growth this company has had in the past years. I’m pretty sure putting a successful show together in Japan in itself is a clear example of their growing success. Below is a cool video put together of their show called slammed society. Sometimes I feel like I sound like a broken record, but I would love to do something like this on the East coast. This is actually the first time hearing of something like this, in the states. Its such a simple concept. Bring vintage, beautiful cars together and drive them the way they should. Why does the West Coast get to have all the fun!

Something I’d love to do one day. Create a clothing line with a vibe of a person who rode in the 50’s-60’s. The style was just so dope back then. It fit in so well with the type of machine they were riding and the look it gives is simply classic dapper at its best. And of course you get a nice little sprinkling of bad ass incorporated. But enough about me, I really love what this company did, not only with their line of clothes but with the video they put together. I love that each bike is from a completely different genre, and time period. Different style bikes brought together, to make a great video.

Rat Rod Encounter

I really love when I randomly run into awesome cars. When I’m with Kenny it’s like we both just won the lottery. It was crazy because that day we had been at the track all day and were completely exhausted, but when we saw these rat rods it completely woke us up and we almost instinctually turned around to snap some pics. I’ve seen rat rods before, but never in the raw, and never ever on Central Ave. in Yonkers. It was quite an experience.

I didn’t take many pics because I was too busy gawking, but here’s what I have.
