Well not exactly. But then again…This is the type of car that stands out SO much, but ask a random onlooker and they couldn’t tell what was done to make it SO outstanding. It looks stock, but then it doesn’t. That’s whats great with OEM+. A car keeps it’s awesome factory lines and still manages to stand out. What this car is rocking are some over-fenders, some lovely rolled front fenders, and a set of Works that fill those fenders perfectly. This car wouldn’t have the same effect is it was rocking a full on body kit. It’s just a different look, and shows that with the right combination, you don’t need much to build a show stopper.

I’m sure we can all name at least five trends going on right now in the automotive world. Whether good or bad there will always be trends, whether we like it or not. What never trends or goes out of style is oem+. I’m sure everyone knows what it is by now so no need for explanation. It’s always been the approach when I build my cars…simply, classic, timeless. One “scene” I always thought had the oem+ thing down to a science are the Europeans. They put a ton of money into their builds with keeping oem lines and theme. I found a perfect example of this below, from a show out in Europe, this weekend. There are a ton of mods in this car, but you couldn’t tell if you weren’t into dubs. Fresh oem paint, all oem trim, audi door handles, cup mirrors, all red tails, a completely retrimmed interior with an Audi TT dash and baller Recaro seats, and I am sure there is a nutty setup under that hood. No insane widebody and fiberglass dash with 6 subs in the back, but GREAT execution. This truly is a car that will never go out of style.
Sometime people get so caught up in buying the most expensive aftermarket parts and adding everything possible that they forget that sometimes, or most of the time cars look great with just small but effective touches here and there. I absolutely love when you can make a car, not only look like it came out of a showroom, but to the untrained eye, would be barely able to notice the simple mods done to a car. I came across this picture of this absolutely mint and beautiful s13 and it reminded me of that fact. Sometime’s the OEM+ look is the one that takes the cake.
Timeless.
It takes a lot of dedication to completely restore a car. It takes even more dedication to restore a car when it’s difficult to find parts in your country. The small bumper MK2 in this video is my favorite build of all time when it comes to second generation golfs. It is really perfect in every aspect. Nothing was overdone, and every single part was replaced, OEM. It’s really great to see people from around the world with the same passions and building incredible cars.
Props.
With all the news of the new GT-86 being revealed, we mustn’t forget about original. I mean, we all know how much the AE-86 changed the game and really started a lifestyle. I spotted this blue 86 in the coverage of Wekfest Hawaii and had to share it. It definetely show’s off a OEM+ theme and pulls it off flawlessly. Why don’t we see more of these on the east coast!?!
I talk about this a lot. But I really don’t understand why love these weird, quirky looking vans. My past has a small part to play in this as my father loved Previa’s and I’m sure would jump on the opportunity to buy a clean example now if he could. Someday I’d like to build him a full VIP rhd Previa. Below I gave two different examples of how these vans look great totally done up and with a oem+ look.
I really can’t get enough of this color combination.
Simple yet so badass. And I’m sure it’s static since everyone rolls hard in Japan.
With my brothers recent purchase of a Porsche 944 he has been trying hard to convince himself that he should actually keep it. You see, it was very much an impulse buy and he would really love to go with his original plan of a build mk2 gti. He came across this video from what seems to be in Denmark of probably the most beautiful 944 I’ve ever seen. The wide body is just perfect. Not too over the top and keeps with the oem lines. The 3 piece wheels round the car out extremely well. Now, if I can only find the manufacturer, he might want to keep the car. Wish me luck!
Pardon the corny music. Anybody have an idea of what it is?
